The intern will work with the Community Health Development team within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH). This includes supporting initiatives related to the Health Improvement Partnership of Maricopa County (HIPMC), the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), and the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).
This internship will provide a robust experience in multiple aspects of community health development, with opportunities for both in-person and virtual engagement.

This includes supporting initiatives related to the Health Improvement Partnership of Maricopa County (HIPMC), the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), and the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).

Primary Responsibilities
• CHNA Preparation and Partner Support:
Assist with preparations for the Spring 2026 CHNA data collection effort by helping to organize, track, and communicate with CHNA mini-grant awardees and community partners.
• Communications and Marketing Support:
Assist with developing content including copy, video, and graphics for social media related to HIPMC, CHIP, and CHNA activities. Maintain a social media content planner and support strategies that increase visibility and partner engagement.
• Research Project:
Support a semester-long research project focused on Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) infrastructure. This will include connecting with other cities and counties to learn how they structure and implement their CHIPs. This will include examining frameworks, strategies, and challenges and summarizing findings in an executive report for the team.
• Event and Meeting Support:
Assist with coordination and logistics for quarterly HIPMC partner meetings, CHIP subcommittee meetings, and CHNA data collection events.
Through this internship, the student will gain practical experience in community engagement, public health communication, and applied research within a large public health system. Their work will directly support HIPMC’s overarching goal of serving as a bridge between Maricopa County communities and the Department of Public Health by strengthening partnerships, aligning efforts, and co-creating solutions to improve community health.
