The Learning and Development (L & D) Intern will work with the Learning and Development team within MCDPH’s Office of Organizational Excellence to meet the department’s workforce development goals and objectives. The selected intern would ideally be working towards a career in Learning and Development, instructional design, talent development, workforce development, and/or adult learning. There are three major areas that fall under the L & D process in which the selected intern will participate: • Training Consultations: when customers reach out to the L & D team requesting training, a team member meets with the customer to assess the request, make recommendations, and explore options for logistical next steps. • E-Learning Course Development: when it is determined that a customer needs an asynchronous e-learning course to meet their needs, the L & D team designs and develops a product in collaboration with the customer. Elements of this include course blueprinting, storyboarding, design, and development in Articulate Storyline 360. • Real-time Class Facilitation: the L & D team facilitates a variety of real-time in-person and virtual training classes for the department. Classes are related to workforce development goals and cover a variety of professional development topics. The selected intern would ideally gain experiences and skills throughout these three areas of adult learning. A few examples of tasks that a selected intern would help with are as follows: • Meet with a customer to assess their request for training and provide recommendations for moving forward. • Draft out customer agreement forms that outline project goals, objectives, and the scope of work for both the L & D team and the customer. • Draft out course blueprints that contain all learning content for an e-learning course. • Develop storyboards that show potential slide images and voice-over content for an e-learning course. • Provide facilitation support for a real-time class being offered by the L & D team. While it would be ideal for the selected intern to be able to come into the office to meet the team, this work can primarily be done remotely.
